17 Lock UPP Contestants and their Controversies in the past

Kangana Ranaut’s journey as show host starts from 27th Feb, skipped broadcasted on any television channel instead it is creating history direct on the Indian video on demand platforms MX Player & ALT Balaji.

Kangana is hosting the show and 17 controversial celebs taking part for 72 days in this controversial & biggest reality show as makers claimed before the start, some popular faces got eliminated but some new join as wild card entry.

Lock UPP is a 24*7 captive reality show, where controversial celebs as inmates comply with the rules set up by host Kangana who has the major say in the show, Elimination of a contestant will depend on 50% on Kangana’s hand and 50% on public voting lines.

The show is produced by Ekta Kapoor under her home banner Balaji Telefilms. Initially, 12 Controversial names entered Lock Upp, now total 17 names added to this first season of Lock Upp, here is all about eliminated and housemates of Lock Upp.

17- Azma Fallah

Another wildcard entry in the show is Azma Fallah, a Pakistani actress, model, blogger and social media star, who has a huge fan following on all her social media accounts and millions of subscribers on her Youtube channel.

Azma was born and brought up in Islamabad, Pakistan but after completing her school education, she moved to Dubai with her family.

She later moved to India to try her luck in industry and has taken many modeling assignments for popular brands including world famous beauty brand Lakme.

Azma Fallah was also the contestant of MTv Splitsvilla Season 13 and interestingly Lock Upp contestant Shivam Sharma was also the part of that show.

Azma said that she is excited to work with ALT Balaji and MX Player for the first time and in her opinion the show needs a girl like her.

Azma thinks that her tough competitor in the show would be the controversy queen Poonam Pandey as she is good but sometimes dangerous.

16- Mandana Karimi

Mandana Karimi has entered as the 16th contestant of the captivity-based show. She is an Iranian actress and model based in India.

Mandana previously participated in Bigg Boss Season 9 where she played so well and ended being the second runner-up of the show.

She appeared as a lead in the 2015 Bollywood thriller film titled Bhaag Johnny alongside Kunal Khemu and Zoa Morani.

Apart from that, she also appeared in 2015 crime film Main Aur Charles as well as 2016 adult comedy Kya Kool Hain Hum 3 and has done many commercials with big B-town stars including Shah Rukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Saif Ali Khan and others.

She got involved in a controversy when she filed a domestic violence caseagainst her Mumbai based husband Gaurav Gupta but later withdrew the case.

15- Chetan Hansraj

Chetan Hansraj, one of the badass villains of the TV industry, has become the 15th contestant to enter Lock Upp.

Hansraj is known for playing notable roles in many popular TV series such as Balram in Mahabharat, a show which made him a household name

He also appeared as Garv in Kkusum, as Sasha in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, as Adham Khan in Jodha Akbar and apart from that he also participated in reality shows like Fear Factor India and Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao.

Talking about the show, Chetan said that he had a mixed feeling of excitement as well as apprehension about the show. It will be interesting to see how he will be able to deal with the other contestants.

14- Ali Merchant

To bring more twists and turns in the show, the makers of MX Players’s popular reality show Lock Upp,hosted by Bollywood Queen Kangana Ranaut, welcomed Ali Merchant, as the wildcard contestant in the show.

Ali is the ex-husband of Lock Upp contestant Sara Khan, and both got married on Bigg Boss Season 4 in 2010 in an Islamic wedding ceremony.

The couple parted ways after two months of marriage, in 2011 due to some personal differences. However, their close friends revealed that the couple was paid 5 million rupees for the controversy.

In an episode of the reality show sach Ka Saamna, Ali also admitted that he had married Sara for publicity and it was the biggest mistake of his life.

Now another reality show has brought them in front of each other once again but here also, the ex-couple again got into a heated argument after Ali tried to talk to Sara.

13- Swami Chakrapani Maharaj

Swami Chakrapani Maharaj who is a political activist and claim to be the president of Hindu Mahasabha is another person who has been added to the list as the contestant of the show.

He gain media attention when he purchased the property of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim at auctions and attempted to convert them into a public toilet.

Swami also got involved in a controversy in 2020 when he organized a Gaumutra Party in Delhi for the cure of the C0vid-19 pandemic. He earlier passes a controversial remark in 2018 that Kerala flood victims who have eaten beef shouldn’t receive help.

12- Shivam Sharma

Actor and Model Shivam Sharma will also enter as a contestant in the show soon. Shivam is the most controversial contestant of MTV Splits Villa Season 13, which was won by Jay Dudhane and AditiRajput.

He was also the runner of that season of Splits Villa and grabbed the headline for his fight with Kevin in the show. It will be interesting to see how Shivam would play the game and how much entertainment he would give the show.

11- Siddharth Sharma

Another contestant of the show is Siddharth Sharma who is a young model and actor, who hails from Delhi. He is best known for featuring in Alt Balaji’s popular web series Puncch Beat, where he played Ranbir Chowdhary.

He also appeared in Alt Balaji’s other web-series cyber squad alongside Rohan Shah, Omkar Kulkarni, Jovita Jose, and Roshan Preet.

He was featured in MTV Big F Season 2 and as a very popular contestant in MTV Splits Villa Season 10. He also appeared in a romantic song Leja Leja Re along with Dhvani Bhanushali.

10- Tehseen Poonawalla

Tehseen Poonawalla who is an entrepreneur, activist, the political analyst is another name on the list of the contestant of the show. He was also the wildcard entrant of Bigg Boss Season 13.

Tehseen showed an excitement to be a part of the show and called it a one of his kind show. He is a staunch supporter of Congress and his ideology is completely different from that of a host of the show Kangana Ranaut.

Very few people know that Tehseen is a close relative of the Gandhi family, he is married to Monicka Vadra, the sister of Robert Vadra, who is the husband of popular Indian National Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi and brother-in-law of Rahul Gandhi.

In 2017, Tehseen got indulged in a controversy when the then textile minister Smriti Irani accused him of passing an inappropriate comment against her in February 2016 when she was Human Resource Development Minister, however, Tehseen rejected all the allegations against him.

9- Saisha Shinde

Saisha Shinde, the popular designer who is known for styling many Bollywood actresses such as Kareena Kapoor Khan, Shraddha Kapoor, and Anushka Sharma and for designing costuming designing in the film Fashion, is also listed as another participant in the show.

Saisha, born as a boy Swapnil Shinde came out to be a trans woman in January last year. She revealed her new identity through a social media post which revealed her journey of finally becoming a transgender was not easy for her.

She revealed that since childhood how she was humiliated by another boy because she was different from them, which pushed her into solitude and the chaos of confusion but when she found the courage to accept her truth publicly, she bloomed.

She also design the stunning silver gown of Miss Universe Harnaaz Sandhu who made the country proud after a long wait of more than 20 years and brought the title home after Lara Dutta.

8- Anjali Arora

Another name listed as the contestant of the show is model and influencer Anjali Arora, who has more than 10 million followers on Instagram. She is also known for her acting in a number of hit Punjabi songs such as Temporary Pyar, Tere Bargi – Diler Kharkiya.

She also has a Youtube channel where she shares her daily life routine with her fans through her blogs, the channel has more than 2 lakh subscribers.

Anjali is a social media influencer and gains popularity by posting her photos and making reels on Instagram.She is a beautiful fitness freak, who rose to fame after her dancing video on popular song Kaccha Baadam went viral on the Internet.

7- Sara Khan

Model and actress Sara Khan, who rose to fame with her role as Sadhna in Star Plus’s show Sapna Babul Ka… Bidai. She also participated in many reality shows including Zara Nachke Dikha, Bigg Boss 4, Nach Baliye 4, Nach Baliye 6, 10 Ka Dum, etc.

The actress was involved in a controversy during her participation in Bigg Boss 4, where she got married to another contestant Salim Merchant in an Islamic wedding ceremony in late 2010. Just after the 2 months of the marriage, the couple parted ways in 2011.

It was said that the actors were paid the sum of Rs. 50 lakh to get married in the Bigg Boss house, although the colors channel denied and called it their personal wish. Later, in an episode of the reality show Sach Ka Saamna, Merchant revealed that he married for publicity, and marrying her was the biggest mistake of his life.

6- Payal Rohatgi

Actress Payal Rohatgi is another name on the list of contestants of the show. She made more headlines for her controversial remarks than actually achieving something big in her film career.

Many cases had been filed against her in the past, for delivering hate speeches against a particular community or individual.In December 2019, Rohatgi was arrested by Bundi Police in Ahemadabad, Gujarat due to her remarks on Nehru Gandhi Family.

In June 2019, she also commented on inequalities in Islam on social media over Dangal girl Zaira Wasim’s decision to leave Bollywood, due to which a police complaint was registered against her at Oshiwara Police Station.

She also made objectionable statements during the farmer protests which last for more than a year. She called farmers ‘Khalistani terrorists’.

In June 2020, Rohatgi wrote a series of vulgar tweets against Muslim women who participated in the Citizen Amendment Bill Protest, due to which her account was permanently suspended by Twitter in July 2020.

5- Karanvir Vohra

The famous Indian TV star Karanvir is changed his name from Manoj to KV aka Karavir, married to model-VJ Teejay Sidhu, and they are proud parents of twins girls, their cute family pics go viral on social media. Kkusum, Kasauti Zindagi Kay, Qubool Hai, to reality show Nach Baliye, he has done several TV serials and shows, also tried hands in movies but failed.

4- Babita Phogat

Famous Wrestler from Haryana, Babita Phogat joins the list, this is most surprising after Munawar Faruqui’s entry into the game, won many medals for India e.g Bronze at the world championship in 2012, gold at the 2014 Glasgow commonwealth games, silver medals in 2010 Delhi ad Goldcoast respectively.

Babita also joined politics (BJP) in 2019, she was enmeshed in the controversy back in 2020 owing to her tweet on Tablighi Jamaat. Aamir Khan starrer blockbuster 2016 film Dangal is based on her family. She is the fourth inmate in Kangana’s captive reality show with the charges of killing the stereotypes.

3- Poonam Pandey

Model-actress Poonam Pandey’s name was surfacing in SM platforms since the announcement of Lock UPP. On Wednesday 23 Feb makers confirmed through a promo video, that Poonam Pandey would be their third inmate in the captive reality show charged with hot and extremely bothered.

Poonam Pandey frequently takes social media by storm through her hot stills. This controversial contestant was embroiled in many controversies in the past.

Some of her big controversies are when she pledged to strip naked if India wins the world cup in 2011, however, India did win the world cup but BCCI barred her to do so.

She was rounded up by the Goa police for reportedly shooting vulgar scenes and obscene videos on the beach, her recent controversy was when the actress complained about her husband Sam Bombay to the Maharashtra police allegedly for assaulting her.

Later Mumbai police told the ANI that her husband had been arrested and the actress was admitted to the hospital. She walked down the aisle with him in Sept 2020 in Mumbai.

2- Munawar Faruqui

Munawar Faruqui is a stand-up comedian born in Gujarat to a Muslim family, he started his stand-up comedy career in the year 2017. Faruqui was embroiled in controversy last year for all the wrong reasons, the comedian was round-up by the Indore police in the charge of hurting religious sentiments of Hindus in one of his videos, where he has been seen mocking Hindu Gods and Goddesses.

Further his lot of shows got called off in the wake of his boycott by people. He is the second inmate of Lock UPP, when makers announced his name, it got mixed responses from the viewers many were in shock as Kangana and Munnawar follow different ideologies, and some viewers are excited that they got to see Munawar and Kangana in one frame. On social media platforms, in particular, Twitter, they both got trolled by their followers for teaming up.

1- Nisha Rawal

Nisha is the former wife of Star plus tv serial fame Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai Karan Mehra, she started her acting career from the tv serial DD metro Aane Wala Pal. Apart from tv, the actress has appeared in four films Rafoo Chakkar, Hastey Hastey, Jack N Jhol, and Tom Dick Harry Rock Again. She married Karan in the year 2012 and after five years the couple separated in 2021, they both have a son.

Nisha filed a case against his ex-husband, Karan, in past accusing him of assault and willful harassment. Now, the rumors are rife that Karan might take part in the show as one of the inmates. As per the rumors, makers have approached Karan for the show, and guess what he seems to look excited to join the show said a source. However, Nisha is the first contestant of the reality show Lock Upp.
