M4 closures this weekend near Slough set to cause delays

Drivers face another weekend of disruption as the M4 is due to be closed in Berkshire.

A stretch of the motorway will be closed in both directions for the entire weekend as part of ongoing smart motorway works.

The £848m project on the M4 is continuing despite the Government delaying the rollout of any new smart motorway schemes.

This weekend, the closure will be between Langley and Slough.

On Friday night there will also be a slip road closure at junction 12 for Theale, while further afield near Swindon and Tormarton lanes and slip roads will be closed for resurfacing.

The M4 will be shut this weekend between junction 5 at Langley and junction 6 for Slough and Windsor.

The eastbound carriageway will close at 8pm on Friday, January 28, while the westbound carriageway will close from 9pm the same night. The motorway will remain shut in both directions throughout the weekend and is due to reopen by 6am on Monday, January 31.

A signed diversion will take drivers onto the A4 and A355 or this route in reverse. Delays are expected around Slough and Langley.

Drivers travelling westbound will not be able to leave the motorway at junction 12 overnight on Friday as the slip road will be closed.

The slip road for Theale, will be shut from 8pm on Friday, January 28 to 6am on Saturday, January 29. Drivers can leave the M4 at junction 11, follow the A33 into Reading and take the A4 Bath Road from the Castle Hill roundabout out towards Calcot and Theale.

The closure is part of National Highways smart motorway project.

A small stretch of the M4 will be closed at junction 16 for Swindon overnight on Friday. The motorway will be closed eastbound between the junction's exit and entry slip roads from 10pm on Friday, January 28 to 6am on Saturday, January 29. Drivers will be diverted off the motorway at junction 16 and then back on to avoid the closure.

There will also be lane closures between junction 17 for Chippenham and junction 16 while resurfacing works take place.

The entry slip road onto the eastbound carriageway of the M4 will be closed overnight.

The junction 18 slip road at Tormarton, will be shut for resurfacing works between 9pm on Friday, January 28 until 6am on Saturday, January 29. A diversion will be in place via the M4 westbound to junction 19, onto the M32 at junction 1 before rejoining the M4.
